House Bill 2869 – providing for paid leave for certain state officers and employees during a declared state of emergency – was read a first time.
Delegate Paul Espinosa (R – Jefferson) spoke about education issues the state is facing including new data that shows about a third of high school students who graduated in the spring of 2016 needed to enroll in a remedial class.
Delegate Barbara Fleischaur (D – Monongalia) spoke to the importance of recognizing Martin Luther King Day.
The House recognized Wheeling Central Catholic high school football team on winning the 2017 Class A football championship.
