Today, the Senate held a lengthy morning session before recessing for a short break.
During session, the Senate passed 10 bills, including House Bill 2517, which will allow correctional industries to directly purchase workers’ compensation coverage for inmates.
Also passed was House Bill 2248, which will expand the list of federal law-enforcement officers who are extended the authority of state and local law-enforcement officers to enforce laws of this state.
Additionally, the Senate adopted Senate Resolution 53, which honors Fred Pace for his heroic and selfless act, in saving the lives of four young automobile accident victims.
Also adopted, was Senate Resolution 54, which urges the U. S. Navy to continue Parkersburg High School’s NJROTC Program.
The Senate will reconvene today at 3:30 p.m.
Upon reconvening, the Senate sent six bills to third reading and passed House Bill 2159, relating to prohibiting members of the news media from being compelled to give testimony and House Bill 2693 which would require insurance coverage for autism spectrum disorders.
The bills passed will return to the House of Delegates to be acted upon.
The Senate will reconvene tonight at 5 p.m.
UPDATE
In a brief evening session, the Senate completed two pieces of legislation and passed numerous bills to the House with amendments.
Of the bills that completed the legislative process, House Bill 2981 will clarify the payment for trade certifications and will also allow the use of tuition assistance for West Virginia National Guard members who are enrolled in certain medical programs.
A bill that will require the disclosure of the number of stamps by brand name that have been purchased from non-participating tobacco manufacturers was also completed. House Bill 2969 was sent to the Governor’s office for approval.
