The Senate met briefly this afternoon to vote on Senate Bill 359, which related generally to reforming public education.
Lawmakers made several amendments changing the criteria for hiring state teachers. Principals and Faculty Senate recommendations would carry double weight where as recommendations one through nine will have equal weight. Additionally, Out of School Environment (OSE) days would be reduced from 12 to six days to make sure that students receive 180 days of instruction. An amendment was also made to remove the Teach for America program.
The Senate is adjourned until tomorrow at 11 a.m.
