Senate Passes WV Workplace Freedom Act

The Senate met today at 11 a.m and passed the WV Workplace Freedom Act with a 17-16 vote. The Senators debated on the bill for more than an hour, weighing out its pros and cons. This bill will prohibit any requirement that a person become or remain a member of a labor organization, or pay dues and fees to a labor union as a condition of employment. 

Another 15 bills were introduced to today, including Senate Bill 361, which prohibits any persons who have committed crimes against elderly from performing community service involving elderly. In addition, Senate Bill 367 was introduced which prohibits sex offenders from living with 1,000 feet of a school. 

The following committees will meet today:

Government Organization at 2 p.m.

Education at 2 p.m. in 451M AND 5 p.m.

Judiciary at 3 p.m. 

Finance budget hearing at 3 p.m. 

 

The Senate will recovene tomorrow at 10 a.m.
