Bob Ashley Appointed to Senate

Bob Ashley (R-Roane) was sworn into the Senate this afternoon during a brief ceremony in the Senate Chamber. Senate President Bill Cole (R- Mercer) administered the oath of office. Ashley was joined in the chamber by his son,  Ben.

Ashley will represent the Third Senatorial District, which is comprised of Pleasants, Wirt, Wood and part of Roane County.

The Spencer, W.Va. native was appointed by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin to fill the vacancy created when David Nohe resigned his Senate seat following his appointment to the West Virginia Parole Board late last month.

Ashley comes to the Senate after 29 years of distinguished service in the House of Delegates, serving from 1984-1998 and again from 2000-2015. He is in the middle of his 15th term in the House and was serving as Vice Chairman of the House Finance Committee and as a member of the House Rules Committee. Ashley served as House Minority Leader from 1994-1998.
