Several Delegates Sworn In Sunday Afternoon

Multiple Delegates were sworn into office Sunday afternoon during both group and individual ceromonies in the House Chamber.

The Delegates officially sworn into office today during individual ceremonies are listed below as follows: George Ambler (R-Greenbrier, 42nd District), Theresa Waxman (R-Harrison, 48th District), Amy Summers (R-Taylor, 49th District), John Kelly (R-Wood, 10th District), Danny Wagner (R-Barbour, 47th District), Mark Zatezalo (R-Hancock, 1st District), Jordan Hill (R-Nicholas, 41st District), Ryan Weld (R-Brooke, 2nd District), Frank Deem (R-Wood, 10th District), Matthew Rohrbach (R-Cabell, 17th District), Mike Azinger (R-Wood, 10th District), Anna Border-Sheppard (R-Wood, 9th District), Paul Espinosa (R-Jefferson, 66th District)), Michael Folk (R-Berkeley, 63rd District), Randy Smith (R-Preston, 53rd District), Brian Kurcaba (R – Monongalia, 51st District)

West Virginia Supreme Court Justices Brent Benjamin and Allen Loughry II each took part in administering the oaths of office.

The 1st Session of the 82nd West Virignia Legislature begins on Wednesday, January 14th, 2015.

 

Youngest Delegate in West Virginia History Takes the Oath of Office

In a ceremony attended by friends and family in the House Chamber tonight, newly elected Saira Blair, (R-Morgan), representing the 59th Delegate District, took her oath of office. 

Delegate Blair won her primary at the age of 17, and at 18-years-old is the youngest Delegate ever elected in the state of West Virginia. The West Virginia University freshman was administered the oath of office by 23rd Circuit Judge John C. Yoder.

The first Regular Session of the 82nd West Virginia Legislature begins on January 14th, 2015.

 

 

Four Delegates Sworn In Saturday Morning

Three newly elected Delegates and one incumbent were officially sworn into office during a brief ceremony Saturday morning in the House Chamber. Shawn Fluharty(D- Ohio) (3rd District) Kenneth Hicks(D-Wayne) (19th District) Ralph Rodighiero (D- Logan) (24th District) and Stephen Skinner (D- Jefferson) (67th District) all took the oath of office administered by House Clerk Greg Gray.

The 1st Session of the 82nd Legislature begins on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015.

Delegate Andrew Byrd Sworn In Friday Afternoon

Andrew D. Byrd (D-Kanawha) was officially sworn into office on Friday at 2 p.m. during a brief ceremony with friends and family in the House Chamber. Byrd will represent the 35th Delegate District. West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Margaret L. Workman administered the oath of office.

Near Capacity Crowd Watches Fayette Delegates Swearing In

A crowd of over 60 Fayette County residents filled the House Chamber Friday at 11 a.m to watch the newest Delegates swearing in ceremonies.

Newly elected Tom Fast, (R-Fayette), and Kayla Kessinger, (R-Fayette), both representing the 32nd Delegate District, were sworn in alongside their family and friends in Charleston. 

 

The oaths of office were administered by West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Allen Loughry II.

 The 2015 Regular Session of the 82nd West Virginia Legislature will begin on Wednesday, January 14th, 2014.

Senator Takubo and Delegate Ihle Attend Swearing In Ceremonies

Thursday evening two more incoming lawmakers were sworn in during ceremonies at the West Virginia Capitol.

Newly elected Senator, Tom Takubo, (R-Kanawha), representing the 17th Senatorial District, took the oath of office in the Senate Chamber Thursday evening with his family in attendance.  Administering the oath of office was West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Allen Loughry II.

Justice Loughry later administered the oath of office in the House Chamber for newly elected Delegate, Michael Ihle, (R-Jackson), representing the 13th Delegate District.

The 1st Session of the 82nd West Virignia Legislature begins on Wednesday, January 14th, 2015.

Delegate Swearing In Ceremonies Mark the Start of December

Incumbent House of Delegate members who recently won re-election as well as two newly elected House of Delegate members attended swearing in ceremonies yesterday and today in the House Chamber ahead of them taking office in January.

Newly elected Jill Upson, (R-Jefferson) representing the 65th Delegate District, was sworn in by Justice Brent Benjamin on Monday, December 1st.

 

Incumbent Delegates Bob Ashley (R-Roane) representing the 11th Delegate District, Jim Butler (R-Putnam) representing the 14th Delegate District, Scott Cadle (R-Mason) representing the 13th Delegate District and Steve Westfall (R-Jackson) representing the 12th Delegate District along with newly elected Roger Hanshaw (R-Clay), representing the 33rd Delegate District, were all sworn in on Tuesday, December 2nd, by Fourth Circuit Judge Thomas C. Evans.

2014 HotRod Power Tour Hosts West Virginia Lawmakers in Charleston Stop

West Virginia Delegates attended a reception at Haddad Park on Monday evening during the 2014 HotRod Power Tour in downtown Charleston. Delegates in attendance for the event included Minority Leader Tim Armstead, Eric Nelson, Jim Butler, Gary Howell, Kelli Sobonya, Eric Householder, Scott Cadle, Ron Walters, and Danny Wells. The reception was hosted by the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) and Source Interlink Media, the parent company of HotRod Magazine.

 

After dinner, several speakers talked briefly about how excited they were with Charleston being a stop on the 2014 Power Tour, the beauty of West Virginia, and how big of an impact the State Legislators make. Speakers included Peter Englehart (Chairman of the Board, Source InterLink Media), Chris Kersting (President & CEO of SEMA), and Doug Evans (Editor of HotRod Magazine).  Delegate Gary Howell (R-Mineral), who is currently serving as the National Chairman of The State Automotive Enthusiast Leadership Caucus – SEMA, also gave some brief comments to the attendees after being introduced by Doug Evans.

 

While a few Delegates brought their hot rods to the car show, Delegates Howell and Householder are traveling with the 3,000+ other enthusiasts participating in the 2014 HotRod Power Tour in Howell’s modified 1999 Jeep Cherokee.

Special Session Concludes, Budget Cuts Restored and Minimum Wage Fix Passes

Lawmakers finished a three day extraordinary session, the 2nd of 2014, on Wednesday.  Lawmakers approved a total of six measures during the brief session.

Included in one measure, Senate Bill 2003, was an amendment to restore funds to several child advocacy and domestic violence prevention programs. The funding for these programs would come from a one time reduction of $1.06 million of the Racetrack Purse Fund. The bill further supplements and amends Title II Appropriations from the State Excess Lottery Revenue Fund to various programs.

Lawmakers also approved and pass House Bill 201, which relates to the application of minimum wage and maximum hour standards.  The bill clarifies that employers in the state will continue to e governed by federal law regarding maximum hours and overtime pay.

Other bills passed included: House Bill 202, which will delay the effective date of the affirmative defense to an action to enforce a mechanic’s lien; House Bill 203, relating to to boat dock and marina safety; Senate Bill 2004, which authorizes a transfer of money to the Courtesy Patrol Fund according to the expenditure schedule set by Budget Office; and, Senate Bill 2006, which extends the time for the Richwood, WV Common Council to meet as levying body.

The House of Delegates and state Senate have adjourned Sine Die.

Special Session Continues Through Second Day of Interim Meetings

Today, the state Senate and the House of Delegates met to continue deliberations regarding the 2nd Extraordinary Session of 2014.  Both bodies received an Amended Proclamation adding one measure to the Governor’s call.

That bill, House Bill 206 and Senate Bill 2006, would extend the time for the Richwood, WV Common Council to meet as levying body.  The House version was read a first time in the House of Delegates while the Senate passed their version.

The House also read for a second time House Bill 201, House Bill 202, House Bill 203House Bill 204, House Bill 205 as well as Senate Bill 2003 and Senate Bill 2004.

The Senate also read a 2nd time Senate Bill 2005, which relates to the application of minimum wage and maximum hour standards.

The House of Delegates is adjourned until 10 a.m. tomorrow.

The Senate is adjourned until 11:00 a.m. tomorrow.
