Legislature Convenes 1st Extraordinary Session of 2016

The West Virginia Legislature convened the 1st Extraordinay Session of 2016 today at Noon. The body will continue to work to balance West Virginia’s budget during this special session.

The House of Delegates introduced three bills. House Bill 101, the Budget Bill, would make appropriations of public money out of the treasury in accordance with section fifty-one, article six of the Constitution. House Bill 102 would make a supplementary appropriation and House Bill 103 would increase the tax on cigarettes.

In addition to introducing identical bills to the three above, the Senate also introduced Senate Bill 1003, which would impose consumers sales and service tax and use tax on telecommunications and ancillary services and Senate Bill 1004, which would increase the consumers sales and service tax and use tax.

The Senate also read its version of the cigarette tax increase, Senate Bill 1005, a first time, advancing it to second reading.

The Joint Committee on Finance will meet at 2 p.m. today in the House Chamber

House Finance will meet at 4 p.m. today and 9 a.m. tomorrow in 460M

The House has adjourned until 11 a.m. tomorrow.

The Senate is in recess until 4 p.m.

The Senate met briefly this evening. 

The Senate has adjourned until tomorrow at 10 a.m.
