Children from the Partnership of African American Churches serenaded the Senate today. The Clay Center for the Music and Arts has been contributing to these programs to help expand the horizon of each and every child. Along with their instructor, the children put on a lovely performance to showcase their talents.
Along with the show, 11 bills were introduced and two resolutions were adopted. Senate Resolution 13 recognized the Clay Center for the statewide contributions they have made. Representatives from the center were among those introduced and honored for all their hard work.
Two bills were read for the first time on the floor today and accepted for their second reading. Of these bills, Senate Bill 71 would make child neglect creating substantial risk of bodily harm a misdemeanor charge. The bill will be read a second time on the Senate floor tomorrow.
Senate Bill 80 was also read for the first time on the floor. This bill would redefine the basis for disqualification of potential jurors. Under this bill anyone who has been convicted of a crime that carries an imprisonment charge of one year or more will be disqualified from duty. Anyone involved in a crime pertaining to dishonesty or false statements will also be disqualified.
