Senate Passes Two Bills, Repeals Alternative and Renewable Portfolio Act.

The Senate Passed its first two bills during today’s chamber session. Senate Bill 1 repeals portions of the Alternative and Renewable Energy Portfolio Act but keeps net metering for customer generators in the legislation. This allows private citizens and businesses that have invested in renewable energy to benefit.  

Senate Bill 3 will codify existing common law in West Virginia as it relates to the duty of care possessors of property owe trespassers.

The Senate also adopted resolution 9 acknowledging Disability Advicocy Day.

Senate Advances Two Bills to Third Reading

The Senate advanced two bills to third reading during todays chamber session. Senate Bill 1, which was advanced with the right to amend, would repeal the article and all sections of the Alternative and Renewable Energy Portfolio Act. Senate Bill 3 would codify existing common law in West Virginia as it relates to the duty of care possessors of property owe trespassers.

The House Introduces 63 Bills, HB 2001 Is Read For A First Time

Today, the House of Delegates introduced 63 bills and read House Bill 2001 for a first time and  advanced it to a second reading. This bill would repeal portions of the Alternative and Renewable Energy Portfolio Act . 

The House Judiciary Committee will host a public hearing tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the House of Delegates Chamber to discuss House Bill 2011. This bill relates to disbursements from the Workers’ Compensation Fund where an injury is self inflicted or intentionally caused by the employer

The House is adjourned until 11:00 a.m. tomorrow.

During Monday’s floor session House Bill 2001 was reported to the floor from the Judiciary Committee. The bill would Repeal the Alternative and Renewable Energy Portfolio Act.

Today in the West Virginia State Seante met and discussed Senate Bill 1.  The bill would  repeal the article and all sections of the Alternative and Renewable Energy Portfolio Act in West Virginia State Code. The bill was read a first time and advanced to second reading.

Senate Honors West Virginia Music Hall of Fame Inductee Butch Miles

The West Virginia State Senate adopted three Senate Resolutions during today’s floor session. Of the three, SR 8 honored jazz drummer Butch Miles, a WV native and member of the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame. Senate Bills 3 and 171-177 were reported from their respective committees and Senate Bills 237-251 were introduced. SB 243 was one of the introduced bills which relates to school nutrition standards during state of emergency and preparedness.

House Bill 2001 Reported From First Committee

Today the House of Delegates convened shortly to report House Bill 2001 from the House Energy Committee to the House Judiciary Committee. The bill would repeal the Alternative and Renewable Energy Portfolio Act.

Senate Celebrates Mon County Day, Introduces Three Bills

The West Virginia State Senate adopted two new resolutions during today’s floor session. SR 5 celebrates Monongalia County and SR 6 honors Doris Marks, a long standing political activist, on Mineral County Day. Three bills were also introduced, including Senate Bill 235, which creates the Hatfield McCoy Regional Recreation Authority Fund.

House Meets on Day Two, Introduces 25 Bills

The House of Delegates briefly met today to introduce 25 bills and announce committee meetings.  One introduced bill, House Bill 2080, would reallocate and dedicate up to $30 million to the natural gas and oil severance tax revenues annually to the natural gas and oil-producing counties of origin. 

The House also adopted SCR 1, which authorizes the payment of supplies, services, printing and other expenses.

The House is adjourned until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow

Legislature Convenes To Hear The State Of The State Address

The House and Senate reconvened at 7:00 P.M. today in the House Chamber for the Governor’s State of the State Address.

The Senate and the House met following the address to introduce the proposed budget bill.  

The House and Senate will both reconvene tomorrow at 11 a.m.
