Senate Passes the First Seven Bills of Session

The Senate convened today at 11 a.m.

There were seven bills on third reading today.

SB 73 modified crime of fleeing from scene of accident,

SB 154 authorized  Department of Administration to promulgate legislative rules,

SB 297 eliminated taxation on annuity considerations collected by life insurer,

SB 298 authorized county assessors make separate entries in landbooks when real property is partly used for exempt and partly for nonexempt purposes, and 

SB 299  related to mandatory insurance coverage for medical foods for amino acid-based formulas – all passed unanimously.

SB 301 removed the limitation on amount collected by county via hotel occupancy tax used for medical or emergency services passed 26-5.

Other bills were read for the first and second time today.

SB 300 was amended on the floor to remove the limit on the amount an entity can take out for tax. The bill is to encourage development on post coal minning sites.

SB 322-333 were introduced to the Senate.

THe Senate adoted SR 11 which designated January 19, 2018, as Southern West Virginia Day at Capitol.

The Senate is adjourned until Monday at 11 a.m.
